Hi, I'm Melissa.
I know what it's like to wonder if you're actually okay with money. That's why I built Breakthrough Budgets™.
I learned early that money in your account
doesn't always mean money you can spend.

I learned one of my biggest money lessons when I was 20.
I got paid, paid the bills I remembered, looked at what was left in my account, and spent some of it.
Then I realized I hadn't paid rent.
I needed $565.
I had $300 left.
I had to borrow the rest from my grandfather.
The money had looked available. But some of it was already spoken for.
I didn't have those words for it at the time, but that lesson stuck with me.
Then 2008 Changed Everything
Years later, during the 2008 financial crisis, I was laid off.
Suddenly, I needed to know exactly how far our money could stretch.
So I opened a spreadsheet and started mapping it all out. Every paycheck. Every unemployment check. Every bill. Every expense.
I needed to see where we stood and what our money needed to do next.
Eventually, I started separating our bill money from our everyday spending. That one change meant I didn't have to look at the balance in our account and mentally figure out how much of it was actually available.
For the first time, the number in our account started to mean something.
That spreadsheet eventually became something much bigger
What started as a way to get our family through a difficult season kept evolving as our life changed.
Over time, I built a simple system around three things I wanted to know:
Are the bills covered?
Are our savings goals on track?
How much can we spend without messing either of those up?
Those three questions became the foundation of the Breakthrough Flow™ Money System I still use today.
So instead of looking at one bank balance and trying to remember everything that money needs to do, I can see what’s covered, what we’re working toward, and what we can actually spend.

Because I know how heavy it is to wonder.

That's why I care so much about helping other women know where they stand.
I don't want you checking your bank account and mentally subtracting bills. I don't want you feeling guilty every time you spend money because you're not sure whether you should. And I don't want managing money to require your constant attention just to keep everything working.
I want you to know what's covered. Know what you're working toward. Know what's safe to spend.
You deserve to know.
A few things I believe about money
Being good with money doesn't mean spending as little as possible.
Your money should support your life, not make you afraid to enjoy it.
A good money system should work when life gets messy.
You shouldn't have to be perfectly organized or constantly paying attention to keep it working.
Unexpected doesn't have to mean unprepared.
A system can't predict everything, but it can give you better options when something changes.
The goal is to think about money less.
Build a system you can trust enough that you don't have to keep figuring everything out in your head.
A little more about me...
I'm in my 40s, married for more than 20 years, and enjoying empty-nester life with a blended family that's now grown to include grandchildren.
I still work full-time while building Breakthrough Budgets™ on the side. I like spending money, love a good spreadsheet, and fully believe there's room for both.
